Why it's on the list

Number two, and the case for it is consistency. This place has never handed me a bad burrito — not on a slow Tuesday, not in the middle of a lunch rush, not once.

Anyone can be excellent on a Saturday with a full crew. Being reliably excellent at 1:15 on a Wednesday is a genuinely harder problem, and they've solved it.

Getting there

Hesperian Boulevard in San Lorenzo, tucked between San Leandro and Hayward, a few minutes off I-880. That makes it a real lunch stop rather than a pilgrimage — if you're working anywhere in the East Bay corridor, the detour is small and the payoff is not.

Before you go

  • Check hours on the restaurant's own listing before you drive. Ours would go stale; theirs won't.
  • Ask whoever takes your order what they'd get. It has never once steered me wrong.
  • Bring cash. Plenty of counters prefer it and a few still require it.
  • If you're eating in the car, ask for it double-wrapped and don't let it steam in the foil.
